Brenda ‘Bee’ was a really big part of my childhood, growing up in Tatsfield...and has always been much more family than a neighbour. As we grew up together, Sam was often over at our house (doing things like playing golf on the slope down towards Ninehams Road, larking around in the swimming pool, playing Ouija Board or watching the brand new Michael Jackson’s Thriller video (1983) or some scary movie like Nightmare on Elm Street); or I was at his (playing in the tree house and the garden, running through the water sprinkler and mucking around in the caravan). Brenda was always very welcoming and fun to be around. I loved ‘Four Acres’, and, even now, I can still ‘smell’ the kitchen larder cupboard and see the checkerboard floor where we’d sometimes sit round together to have tea. Brenda was a great gardener, and her garden was beautiful and full of colour. When it was hot, I remember her gardening with little shorts on, looking very glamorous with her golden tan. As we got older, Brenda loved to be part of the party, and joined in with Sam’s friends, having a drink together and a laugh. Brenda was always a ‘cool’ mum, and never minded if people stayed up very late in her house. She was always so sociable. When I think of Bee, I will always smile as I remember - her blonde hair, a naughty laugh and sense of humour, her glamour and love of bold prints, her golden tan and, more than anything, her love for her family. ...& she also made the best rock cakes I’ve ever tasted! RIP Lovely lady xxx
